Vietnam will make all-out efforts continue with its commitment and efforts to further implement the “World Fit for Children”, said the Minister and Chairperson of the Vietnam Committee for Population, Family and Children Le Thi Thu at a press conference held in Hanoi on March 27.

Tre-em1 Mrs Thu said Vietnam will build child-friendly legal, family, school and social environments; raise public awareness of children’s rights; allocate more resources to address children’s issues; and strengthen the monitoring, detection and proper punishment of all acts of harming and abusing children and violating their rights.

Counseling services and early interventions have been developed to ensure that people learn about laws, policies and benefits created by the State and society for children, she added.

Speaking at the press conference, Kul Gautam, Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) congratulated Vietnam's achievements for children.

"In just over a decade, poverty has been halved. Under-five mortality and malnutrition rates have been significantly reduced. Immunisation coverage is very high. More children than ever before have access to primary education," he said.

"I would urge Vietnam and its development partners to go even further, and adopt some time-bound goals to accelerate progress is disparity reduction, especially as it concerns children, ” he said.
